NNC to launch PPAN 2023–2028 in Visayas region with call to LGUs to intensify nutrition actions

The National Nutrition Council (NNC) is set to launch the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2023–2028 in the Visayas region on October 2, 2023, following successful national and Luzon launches in September 2023.

PPAN is an evidence-based framework aimed at guiding various stakeholders, including government, NGOs, academia, and the private sector, in addressing public health concerns like stunting, wasting, obesity, and micronutrient deficiencies.

As part of the Philippine Development Plan, PPAN serves as a comprehensive blueprint to combat hunger and enhance nutrition in the Philippines, outlining targets and priority actions.

The Visayas launch emphasizes the urgent need for local government leaders to intensify nutrition efforts and combat all forms of malnutrition in their areas, guided by PPAN 2023–2028. Prominent government officials, including House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, Health Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa, and NNC Executive Director Dr. Azucena M. Dayanghirang, will lead the unveiling ceremony.

Approximately 300 attendees, including NNC Governing Board members, governors, regional committee members, local nutrition focal points, regional Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) networks, and local stakeholders, are expected to participate.

Dr. Parolita A. Mission, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator at National Nutrition Council Region VII, urges local chief executives in Central Visayas to join the launch and actively implement the programs, projects, and activities of PPAN 2023–2028 to address stunting and other forms of malnutrition in the region. //PRESS RELEASE-NNC Region VII
