Leadership essentials for successful nutrition programs in LGUs in Central Visayas

Leadership is a crucial component of successful programs and advocacy efforts. It involves influencing a group of individuals to work together towards a common goal and is both a relationship and a process. In 2023, local government units (LGUs) are striving for improvement in health and nutrition implementation.

Leadership is a dynamic process that considers the leader, followers, and the situation. Different leadership approaches are required for various situations and follower types. To become a good leader, the Nutrition Program Management Manual of the National Nutrition Council emphasizes the concept of "Leadersheep," characterized by four "E's":

1. ENERGY: A leader should possess personal energy and be action-oriented.

2. ENERGIZE: Effective leaders inspire and involve others, motivating the workforce to maximize organizational potential.

3. EDGE: Leaders should be competitive, maintain momentum, and advocate boldly.

4. EXECUTE: A good leader must have a track record of producing results while upholding values, demonstrating a willingness to go beyond the call of duty.

To enhance nutrition programs in LGUs, consider the existing leadership structures at various administrative levels, from the national to the barangay.
