The Tutok Kainan Supplementation Program (TKSP) in Central Visayas launched in February 16, 2023, and welcomed fathers who accompanied their children.
Research indicates that fathers play a significant role in their child's growth and development, including their nutrition. Fathers are responsible for providing basic needs, making decisions, introducing new foods, protecting their family, and serving as a role model and educator. Properly fulfilling these roles can contribute to program success and a child's development into a responsible citizen.
Weeks after the launch, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) Region VII monitored the implementation of the TKSP in Barangay Abis, Mabinay, Negros Oriental. The program provides supplemental feeding to 35 children aged 6–23 months old through purok-based cluster feeding.
The monitoring checked the implementation of necessary program components, including informed consent, baseline data gathering, storage of food commodities, and monitoring tools. The Barangay Nutrition Committee also conducted complementary activities such as nutrition education and health interventions like immunization and micronutrient supplementation.
A mother expressed gratitude for the program and for the knowledge gained from the mother's class organized by the Barangay Nutrition Committee (BNC). The BNC Chair and Punong Barangay, Gally Moreno Baldomar, viewed the program as a promising intervention in preventing stunting and promoting behavior changes for parents of child beneficiaries.//MIND 7, with DMO II Kristal Katrina Bacay, RN, of NNC Region VII
